Gumtree and WPNC are partnering to offer charities help during Covid-19
In these difficult times, everyone is thinking laterally about what they can do to be useful. Gumtree approached WPNC to get the message out about a number of ways they can use their community and resources to assist charities in promoting their messages and tapping into people that feel motivated to help and give support.
More about Gumtree and Covid-19
Gumtree has always had community at the heart of its business. 20 years on from our conception, Gumtree is more culturally relevant now than it has ever been. In a world where many feel disillusioned and detached, people are looking for ways to reconnect with their community. In fact, over half of UK adults state they would now rather shop locally if the option was there.
Alongside this, there is an ever-growing consciousness around consumption - an understanding that we all need to waste less and share more. For nearly 20 years Gumtree has quietly helped millions behave sustainably, by giving a new lease of life to clothes, furniture, electronics and cars.
Today Gumtree is actively helping people save money and save the planet in one move. We do this through our work in the Sharing Economy UK, by partnering with the circular Economy Lab, and by working with government and other behaviour change organisations. By helping buyers and sellers connect within their local communities, Gumtree empowers people to make more sustainable choices – keeping quality second hand items in circulation and out of landfill by helping people pass them on to happy new homes.
In light of the very difficult period we are going through with the Coronavirus pandemic we have seen our community come together and list their services on our site to help neighbours and vulnerable people with shopping, medicine, gardening and much more which has been fantastic to see. We now have a featured category for this on the Homepage.
Gumtree have also set up many initiatives also to ensure our users are supporting their neighbours - helping the vulnerable who need the most support, parents who are adjusting to balancing work and educating their children at home and small businesses who rely on our B2C platform.
We have also introduced a partnership with Parcel2Go so users can trade essential, small items safely on Gumtree from their homes, during lockdown. We are committed to enable users to trade safely through this difficult period.
Revenue generated from this partnership during lockdown will be donated to @crisis_uk ‘In This Together’ emergency fund. This will support the incredible work that they are doing in communities throughout the UK, bringing vital care to vulnerable people.
